Three Reasons Women Are More Likely To End Their Marriage

DivCouple8

It is a common misconception that men are usually the ones to file for divorce first. In fact, according to a recent study based on over 2,000 heterosexual couples, 70 percent of women initiated the divorce process. When a woman has a college education, that number increases to 90 percent. So, why are women more likely to end their marriage? The three main reasons are found below.

Women Often Feel Held Back

This reality has been highlighted over and over again in Orlando over the course of the pandemic. More women are working today and yet, they still also carry the bulk of the responsibility when it comes to taking care of children and maintaining the household. Even when both spouses have a full-time job, it is still the woman that largely maintains the household. Additionally, women are also more likely to give up their job in order to take care of the home, as was recently shown during the pandemic. This can lead a woman to feeling held back, and can place a strain on the marriage. When the strain is too great, it can lead to divorce.

Women Often Have a Higher Emotional Burden

Generally speaking, women are often seen as the emotional foundation of the family, providing support to everyone in the household. Men often do not communicate as effectively or as often. When they are not able to provide the same level of support to their spouse, it can lead to the woman feeling drained and as though she is alone in the marriage, which may cause her to decide to end it.

Women Will Not Accept as Much as They Once Would

It was not that many years ago when women largely stayed home to take care of the household and raise the kids while the man went off to work. The truth is at that time, women were much more dependent on their husbands and so, many were scared to get a divorce and be left with nothing. So, they would simply stay in unhappy marriages longer than they would today.

Today, that is no longer the case. Most women work today and so, they have more financial stability in the event that they get a divorce. That may lead to them not being as forgiving if their spouse has an affair, or does anything else in their marriage the woman thinks is intolerable. This often leads to divorce.
